I dunno man, it's going to be pretty tough finding work. I think you were born 20 years too late. Studios are going the CG route these days, even for stuff that could easily be done through conventional methods. I think Trey Parker and Matt Stone were going to make a Godzilla-esque movie, but that got canned.

yea. i cant afford to be disillusioned and think there's plenty of work to be had out there.. but the industry still does exist, even if its used more practically in smaller scales such as commercials/music videos/ indie films/heck even theme park animatronics. still, i'm not even that far ahead, i just want to learn more about HOW to do it. kits off the net only go so far.
