pacysquirms

i think this is the best of 1-5, the sense of sarcasm seems to befit these punchlines more. as i'm sure you know, the animation is wonderful and highly distinct, i love the unfolding crest at the beginning, and the animal "soundtrack" playing with it. your best weapon is keeping these brief, it insures the style stays fresh, and that the writing doesn't drag. its just the right size. don't be disheartened by the "1ts nt funy enouff" reviews, this series definitely has a future ahead of it.

happy birthday!

darn. i knew i forgot someone on my list. dammit - i got barrabus somethin' bitchin too.

pretty darn good. it was nice to have a progress bar at the bottom, but is there a way to turn that off? otherwise that was some fine animation. and people should learn to review by now, not by preferences but by skill.

the people hat downrate this stuff simply because of the religious spoon in their ass have no concept of how much blood and sweat actually goes into making these.

good potential here

now this fascinated me. i'm not going to go into some rant about the plot, theme, or substance of it. because i didn't even understand that. but the art direction was really interesting. while the 'sloppiness' of the short turned off a lot of people, if you watch the movie all the way through you do notice some very well executed transitions and effects that definitely separate this from most flash of this artistic caliber. the face disappearing from the window, the crow, the burning effects - particularly the eye, and the visions behind the eyelids were all very well done and show a lot of directorial merit. while this may not impress most, i can tell that there's a great deal of potential to be had in this, and your future submissions. if you intend to make anymore. the only segments that seemed like they could use improvement were the text and the actual burning sound effect. the text scrolled by too fast and because of the way it was written i could have dwelled on it more. also the sound effect for the burning blocked some of the music, that could have been better if it was toned down more. other than that, i think this was great and shows good promise!

Twist responds:

Thank you for the very insightful review! I would like to say that the somewhat suddeness of the sound effects was intended (along with it drowning out the music) however I definately see how it could be a problem, so thank you. I also agree the text should have lasted slightly longer.

*shrugs*

this sort of thing is incredibly subjective, so i shouldn't really criticize it - it was never meant to be mainstream enough for that. for what i've seen in experimental films though i felt this sort of missed the mark for the heavy mood it was going for. it did however employ some interesting transitional effects before the titles came up, and haze over the preloader screen looked really good. that may have been a drawback. the preloader looked cool so i was expecting a little more.
as for the writing... it was nothing new, very easy to telegraph the lines, but they were cued well to the images.
it would have been nice to include more hand drawn sketches, primarily at points that lacked words and needed a punch, like the last few seconds of the short where he's looking down. but, whatever. you already said you weren't going to check back so this is pretty futile :\

sexy and mild

this submission doesn't deserve the score it has. it should be SO MUCH HIGHER.
look at the genre, spam. this is BEAUTIFUL and defies its class. from the perfectly hilarious and adorable doodles of perel to the uber-slick borderless stylings of v-harken, its a great matchup and a fun submission. i really hope that this has the unfair score it gets purely because the overly stuckup religious peebs (you can be a christian and have a sense of humour you know) that are voting this down. that's the only logical thing i can think of though that people can argue about this for, but even that's a stretch. i can't see how this is inflammatory really. who doesn't want to feel sexy on their worst day?
if people are downrating this purely for any other reason.... they don't know what the hell their votin' finger is for.

hate to fight that boss

i'm gonna bitch about your pacing again. just a warning.

i gotta say, that may just be the boost the sonic industry has been looking for. you did get the level consistencies down pat'. i just don't get it though, you spend an exorbitant amount of time compiling commentary, ideas, and extras into each cartoon, but the actual "toon" itself seems so rushed. no no no, not the episode length - the pacing of the episodes. you sound like you're racing through your own lines to get to the end, asap. by contrast, its good to see that the other incidental characters usually are the opposite, the slowness of their speech helps balance out your near-incomprehensible speed-reading.
i love gratuitous Mr. T as much as the next person, but you're not really pulling off the random, 4th wall cameo-style humour real well yet. good luck with that i guess. on the plus side, you've got excellent lip syncing capabilities there, especially impressive.

Bobert-Rob responds:

Hm, I'm not sure. I tend to like my fast speaking capabilities. I can see how it could be perceived as annoying or tacky though, I guess. And Mr. T... I don't know, I like putting him in animations. He's always been a favorite topic of mine. I can see how it'd feel a little forced, I guess. Hopefully I develop in better ways in the future, who knows. Thanks for taking the time to view my work.

HIGTIWTTE

Everything you said about the movie was completely factual, i'll give you that. I've been blessed to keep one of my lives safely away from those movie seats with jailbait snail trails, instead i know twilight's crappiness because my cousin willed herself to finish the book under pain of death, and i was the only one within earshot of her pleas for a quick death. so YES, you succeeded in intent, but i just can't give you a high score for your execution. no, i'm not talkin' bout the cuttin corners with the art, i didn't even notice that. its... the voice acting, you speed through all your lines so you can pull off these crescendos to impact the "punchline". its like the audio equivalent of a brainfreeze. and there's thousands of them in these!! this one did have less dead space in the dialogue though compared to some other episodes you've done. sometimes it seems really forced that you set up lines for particular characters so they feel like they've constantly got one-liners for every situation. its sitcom-like, but it goes against the setup you do for all your toons, the 'hidden camera on my life' thing. i dunno. the characterizational humour is too much, and the delivery is too fast.

i'd definitely go for the unused intro audio next time. pterydactyl voice? i thought you were trying to go for the "i can belch the alphabet" voice... without actually having the skill of belching the alphabet....voice...

Bobert-Rob responds:

Well, sorry the quick wit of the lines was a little unbelievable to you. And yeah, a lot of the lines are spoken kind of fast... apologies. I'll have to see what I can do to improve upon the audio end. Glad you enjoyed what did of it, though.

witnessing denial

aww... i wish we had solicitors and telemarketers again. mum took us off their list and put no soliciting signs by our door. i never have company anymore!
the voice acting wasn't bad, it seemed a little hasty in certain parts though, i think the briskness - during the punchline and whispering - kept it from being more comprehensible. the animation was suitable though. pretty darn good animation i'd say

IzakFlashMan responds:

aww shucks. To kind.
and I gotta learn timing. My cartoons generally do things insanely quick, Its poor design on my part.

beautiful.

i was having an argument with someone who didn't find this at all funny. people need to understand that not all comedy out there is meant to be spoon fed with cockjokes and parodies. some things are funny just for how trivial it is in REAL LIFE. its just that newgrounds isnt known for having people with experience in/with real life...
i like this, this kind of 'incidental' humour. it can be painfully dull when it isn't done right, but this was executed perfectly for itself, the animation was stunningly fluid and articulate, yet simple. i love the palette of tones used. this could definitely stand alone, but it would be wonderful to see this as the pilot for a series....? please?

sexysexybicycle responds:

Thanks so much! I know that there are people that will not find this thing the least bit funny. And to be honest, I'm not too tiffed. I'm a strong believer that humor (and art for that matter) is COMPLETELY subjective. That's part of what makes comedy so great. Different people laugh at different things. That's why I don't think anyone can say something is or isn't funny. Even if someone tells a "bad" joke, there is someone out there somewhere who will laugh at it.

Glad you thought it was funny though! Thanks for the review.

hot as fresh milk

aw, clever idea, i wish i had thought of that. had it been longer/larger it may have gotten a better response (OHHH THATS WHAT SHE SAID) seriously though, what was there was good, and looked great, and synced perfectly. and i bet it didn't take you more than 2 hours to do.
pfft you can be so cool.

i hate you.
